2024 KSEAUK Outstanding Research Awards (PGR, ECR & ECI)

We are pleased to announce that the call for nominations for the 2024 KSEAUK Outstanding Researcher Awards is now open. These prestigious awards recognise exceptional contributions to science and technology by Postgraduates (PGRs), Early Career Researchers (ECRs), and Early Career Investigators (ECIs). The 2024 KSEAUK Outstanding Researcher Awards offer two recipients per category certificates and cash prizes of £500 for PGRs, £800 for ECRs, and £1,000 for ECIs.

The KSEAUK Outstanding Researcher Awards recognise three distinct categories of members who have established a distinguished record of research, scholarship, or creative activities throughout their research careers.

 

The three award categories are:

  • Postgraduate (PGR) Award: Open to PhD candidates (full-time or part-time).
  • Early Career Researcher (ECR) Award: Up to 8 years of research experience since your PhD by the submission deadline, do not hold a permanent post (including proleptic or rolling contract of employment) in a university or not-for-pr research organisation.
  • Early Career Investigator (ECI) Award: Up to 12 years of research experience since your PhD by the submission deadline, hold a (permanent or non-permanent) post equivalent to university lecturer levels in a university or not for profit research organisation.

 

Who can apply

  • Ethnic Korean scientists or engineers.
  • Affiliated or employed at research universities/institutions or industrial/government labs in the UK.
  • Members of the Korean Scientists and Engineers Association in the UK (KSEAUK).

 

How to apply

  • Nominations must include the following materials to be considered for the award. In addition, all materials submitted for the evaluation must be in English.
  • The nomination package should be included:
    • Nomination form - Please write a nomination letter accessible to those unfamiliar with the nominee’s research field. The nomination form in MS Word format can be downloaded from the dedicated KSEAUK webpage.
    • CV, including a list of the nominee’s scientific publications.
    • For PGR, no need for supporting letters or publications for the nominee’s application.
    • For ECR, one most important publication from the list + one supporting letter for the nominee’s application.
    • For ECI, two most important publications from the list + two supporting letters for the nominee’s application from fellow researchers.
  • All application documents, except for supporting letter(s), must be submitted electronically in a single PDF file to the KSEAUK secretary at secretary@kseauk.org by 11.59 pm UK time on 31 May 2024 (BST).
  • Supporting letter(s) should be submitted to KSEAUK secretary via secretary@kseauk.org by 11.59 pm UK time on 15 June 2024 (BST).

 

How to select

Two awardees per category will be selected by the KSEAUK Award Evaluation Committee. The recipients will be selected based on their scientific excellence in the dedicated field and potential to become a developing leader in their research area. The selection criteria include the quality of rationale in the nomination letter and demonstrated the impact of the early career scholarship. The recipients will be announced on the KSEAUK web page https://www.kseauk.org/ and via email by 8 July 2024.

 

Award ceremony

The KSEAUK Outstanding Researcher Award ceremony for 2024 will be incorporated into the 50th anniversary of KSEAUK celebration event during the EU-Korea Conference on Science and Technology (EKC) in 2024. EKC2024 (https://ekc2024.org) will be held at the University of Warwick, 30 July – 1 Aug 2024. Attendance at the award ceremony is mandatory for awardees.
