2022 KSEAUK Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award

The Korean Scientists and Engineers Association in the UK (KSEAUK) recognises outstanding early career scientists or engineers who have contributed to the advancement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through the KSEAUK Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award with a £500 personal cash prize. This award offers a maximum of three awards. Applications for the award are due by 31 July 2022.

Who can apply

Candidate’s research must be within the areas of STEM, which includes but is not limited to Biological Science, Energy & Environment, Data Analytics, Design & Construction, Information & Communication Technology, Marine & Ocean, Mechanics, Mechatronics & Engineering, and Material Science & Technology. 

Candidates are limited to ethnic Korean Scientists or Engineers based at an eligible UK organisation and a UK resident at the time of application. In order to apply for the Award, the candidates should be KSEAUK members first.

The award is open to early career researchers with a requirement of holding a PhD awarded on or after 1stJanuary 2013 or equivalent qualification. However, the award committee may make exceptions for candidates who were obtained their PhD prior to 1st January 2013 if their careers were disrupted due to extended medical leave, maternity leave, child-rearing, etc.  

 

How to apply

Nominations must include the following materials to be considered for the award. In addition, all materials submitted for the evaluation must be in English.

  • Nomination form. Please write your letter accessible for those unfamiliar with your research field. Nomination form in MS Word can be downloaded from the KSEAUK website. Please carefully follow the instructions in the form. 
  • CV. The nominee’s CV must include a list of scientific publications and a separate list of up to three selected publications with a brief description of each publication (max. 100 words). 
  • One reference letter supporting the nomination.

Combine the completed nomination form, CV and any other supporting documents, and email one pdf file (up to 10 pages) to secretary@kseauk.org with the subject, “KSEAUK Award Application”. 12 pt Times New Roman or Arial is preferred. One reference letter emailed directly to secretary@kseauk.org with the subject, “KSEAUK ECR Award Reference” by 31 July 2022.

Nomination Period: From 1 May 2022 to 31 July 2022.

 

How to select

Each application will be reviewed by the Award committee. Award recipients are selected based on their scientific excellence in STEM and potential to become a developing leader in their research area. The selection criteria include the quality of rationale in the nomination letter and demonstrated the impact of the early career scholarship. The awardee(s) will be announced at https://www.kseauk.org/.

 

Award ceremony

The KSEAUK Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award, a £500 personal cash prize with a certificate of the award, is presented to the most outstanding early career candidates in STEM each year. The award will be presented at the KSEAUK annual conference in 2022. The awardee(s) is required to give an invited presentation at a relevant special interest group session at the conference. Details of the 2022 KSEAUK annual conference will be announced in due course.
